Ideas for Carriage Centerpieces at Weddings
- Start with a metal carriage frame, available at your local craft store or online. Open the carriage door and add moss and flowers to the floor of the carriage. Since the door will remain closed, you do not need to glue down the materials. Glue a strip of white tulle on the carriage roof. Top the tulle with matching flowers. Place the carriage in the middle of the table.
- Use a set of old, round teapots for your carriage centerpieces. Take a vintage skate and remove the foot strap. Paint the skate the same color as the teapot. Place the teapot atop the skate. The wheels on the skate will serve as the carriage wheels and the teapot takes the shape of the carriage. Glue the teapot and skate's bottom with strong-bonding glue to secure in place. Wrap ivy around the centerpiece to complete the look. Alternatively, glue the teapot to any combination of a platform and wheels; it doesn't have to be a skate.
- Place a wrought iron plate holder with a scrolled bottom on the table. Add a tissue honeycomb ball in your wedding color atop the holder. You will now have an inexpensive honeycomb carriage for a simple centerpiece. Use this budget-conscious option for more casual or relaxed wedding receptions. Avoid it for receptions that include silver flatware and other elegant color schemes that would conflict with the centerpiece's casual look.
- Make your own version of Cinderella's pumpkin carriage. Carve a hole atop a pumpkin and remove all the seeds. Carve out areas for the windows and carriage door. Cut carriage wheels from circular cardboard shapes. Paint the wheels. Use strong-bonding glue to affix the wheels to the pumpkin's sides. (Do not affix them on the pumpkin's underside because the cardboard will not support the pumpkin's weight.) Attach gold braided rope with tacks around the edges of the wheels, windows and wheel spokes.
- Have your centerpiece double as dessert. Ask your caterer to bake small cakes to place in the center of each table. Ask her to sculpt the cakes into the form of a carriage. Using this method, you can combine your centerpiece and cake budget and eliminate the cost of a traditional wedding cake.
- Talented ice sculptors can form any figure out of ice. Hire an ice sculptor to complete the work on your centerpieces. Place a carriage ice-sculpture centerpiece at each table atop a silver platter. Centerpiece ice sculptures will last for about five hours before melting. Even if your sculptures start to melt, the silver platter will ensure that water won't invade your guests' place settings.
