Use an ungrounded (two-prong) power cord for this project.element electric power black image by Leonid Nyshko from Fotolia.com

Pull the wire ends of the electrical cord apart so there is a 6-inch separation between the wire ends. Strip each wire end of 1/2 inch of insulation.

    • 2). Solder one of the power cord's wire ends to one of the transformer's primary terminals. Solder the remaining power cord wire end to the remaining transformer primary terminal.

    • 3). Cut two pieces of electrical wire and strip each wire end of 1/2 inch of insulation. Place the first ring terminal over one end of the first wire, and crimp the terminal to the wire. Place the second ring terminal over one end of the second wire, and crimp the terminal to the wire.

    • 4). Solder the free end of the first wire to one of the transformer secondary terminals. Solder the free end of the second wire to the remaining transformer secondary terminal.

    • 5). Plug the power cord into the inverter electrical outlet. Turn on the power inverter. The voltage differential across the two ring terminals is 220 volts AC.
