Sometimes we get stuck in a relationship out of habit and realize suddenly that we aren't really happy.
But we may wonder if the relationship just needs more effort, or whether we're just being too critical.
If you have the feeling your relationship isn't what it once was, but aren't sure if it's time to move on, you may need to watch for some telltale signs.
There are signs you can look for in your relationship that will tell you it's time to move on.
  1. You feel like the relationship is one-sided.
    If you are giving a lot of yourself and your partner isn't, it may because only one of you is really trying.
    A relationship should be about give and take on both sides.
    Don't be the only one giving or you'll soon by sucked dry.
  2. You don't look forward to seeing your partner.
    You should look forward to seeing you partner each day.
    If you find yourself searching for reasons to cancel a date or you don't answer the phone when they call, you may realize in your heart that the relationship isn't right.
    Sometimes it just takes a while for our heads to realize it.
    If you're starting to avoid your partner, it's time to cut the ties completely.
  3. You are lying to your partner.
    Do you keep secrets from your partner? Not the surprise birthday party kind, but the "I know he won't like this," kind of secret? Lying to your partner about time spent with friends or what you've been doing is unforgivable.
    Whether you're doing it because you are afraid of their temper, because you know you're doing something wrong, or just because you know they won't understand, it's a sign of a definite weakness in the relationship.
    End it rather than leading a life of deceit.
  4. You start over-analyzing your partner.
    Do you pick apart his or her every flaw? Are the little quirks you once found endearing now grating on your nerves? If you discover that those cute little things that made him or her special now just seem irritating, it's time to find someone you're more compatible with.
  5. You are trying to fix your partner.
    It's a simple fact - you have to love your partner they way they are.
    Adults don't need to be fixed, just loved.
    If you can't love your partner just the way he or she is, let him go.
    Someone out there will find your ex-partner is perfect for them.
  6. You keep apologizing for your partner.
    If you feel compelled to apologize repeatedly for your partner, you're obviously finding that he or she has some problems.
    There is no reason you should have to make excuses for your partner.
    Either your partner has problems to work on, or you to simply have different ideas of what constitutes acceptable behavior; either way, it's time to move on.
  7. You don't feel good about yourself when you're with your partner.
    A good relationship is based on mutual respect and admiration.
    If your partner is making you feel insecure or unsure of yourself, he or she isn't nurturing you like they should.
    A healthy relationship is based on helping and encouraging one another.
