Guide Review - Sevendust - Best Of (Chapter One 1997 - 2004)
Sevendust switched record labels for their latest album. This CD is a collection of songs from their previous label, TVT Records. They released just four albums on that label, which seems a bit sparse to have a greatest hits album, but I'm sure this was purely contractual.
The songs are arranged chronologically, and are pretty evenly divided among their four albums. There are 3 tracks from their 1997 self-titled debut, 4 from 1999's Home, 3 from 2001's Animosity and 2 from their 2003 album Seasons.
The last four songs are bonus tracks. Two are originals that were b-sides. There are also two cover songs. One is of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues." The other is Alice Cooper's "School's Out."
Sevendust is a diverse sounding band. They have the versatility to do angry straight-ahead traditional metal songs, but also can pull off emotional ballads.
