Human papillomavirus, or HPV as some call it, is a type of virus that results in a skin abnormality known as genital warts.
There are various kinds of these viruses, examples are HPV 16, 18, 31, and many more.
But the most common type is the HPV 6 and 11, which is a lot safer than the others first mentioned, because they tend to have lower risks of developing into cancer.
With so many types of viruses, the good thing is that there are many options and genital wart treatment methods to cure them.
Experts say that these warts are mostly transmitted through sexual contact with a person affected by it, so always be aware of this because it is highly contagious.
Almost 25 percent of these patients too are discovered to have other kinds of sexually transmitted diseases besides these warts.
People within the ages of 17 to 33 years old are also said to be the most people who are affected by genital warts, since probably this are the ages where people become sexually active.
There are many symptoms that would tell that you are probably developing genital warts, although the problem most of the time is that these signs tend to show up after some months, and in other cases, it takes years.
The most obvious sign that you might probably see is the growth of lumps on your genitals which are commonly reddish or grayish in color.
Female genital parts also tend to secrete more fluids than usual on the affected area.
Some women also bleed after intercourse though they don't feel any pain on the part which is bleeding.
Warts in general are painless, but some also experience itchiness and a burning sensation on the affected area.
If you suddenly noticed these symptoms, it would be wise to immediately have it checked by your doctor to be sure.
There are many ways of treating genital warts and self medicating is not advisable since it is very contagious.
Even over the counter medicines should not be applied unless properly advised by your doctor.
Some examples of the most common medicines used in treatment of genital warts are Alferon N, Condylox, Podofin, Veregen, Aldara, and Efudex.
The drugs mentioned are mostly used in connection with certain treatment methods for treating the warts.
The three most common methods used are cryotherapy, electrodessication, and laser treatment.
But you have to know that these methods are still not a 100 percent sure way to completely stop the genital warts.
If the warts are still small in size and number, surgery can also be performed.
The only thing about this method is that it has a higher chance of warts recurring.
Other people also try various methods like ayurveda, acupressure, and acupuncture.
Always keep in mind that there is no definite or guaranteed genital wart treatment.
Every case still has a high chance of recurring, so be aware of it since it can still be contagious.
If you have been previously treated and the warts are removed, you can support this by having a proper and balanced diet.
Eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially those rich in vitamin C can help strengthen your immunity to lessen your risk of acquiring these viruses again.
