U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development

• The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sponsors the Community Development Block Grant Program. Grants are awarded to cities and counties with over 50,000 and 200,000 residents respectively to improve the economic and living conditions of its residents. Eligible projects include purchasing real properties, constructing and renovating neighborhood centers, community centers, public facilities and other residential and nonresidential structures. Grant amounts are determined by the areas' levels of population and poverty, housing overcrowds and the lags in population growth in comparison with other metropolitan areas.
