Outpatient vs Hospitalization Management for Diverticulitis
Outpatient vs Hospitalization Management for Diverticulitis
This study showed that outpatient management is safe and effective in patients with uncomplicated acute diverticulitis who do not present concomitant unstable comorbid conditions; immunosuppression; cognitive, social, or psychiatric impairment; and intolerance to oral intake. Outpatient management allows important cost saving to the health systems without negative influence on the quality of life of patients with uncomplicated diverticulitis. Further research is needed to study the safety and efficacy of outpatient management in selected patients with acute colonic diverticulitis complicated by small size abscesses.
