Connecting with organizations devoted to melanoma research and patient support is a good first step in getting your questions answered. The Melanoma Research Foundation (see Resources) offers patients information on the disease, treatment options, treatment centers and opportunities to connect with other patients.

    Financial Assistance

    • Whether you have insurance, are underinsured or do not have insurance, there are resources to help you pay for your care and treatment. The Patient Advocate Foundation (see Resources) offers mediation and arbitration services with insurance companies. Cancer Care is an organization providing an array of services to patients, including referrals for financial assistance.

    Social Workers

    • Medical social workers assist cancer patients with a variety of concerns and issues. They can be invaluable resources for accessing services and assistance programs in your area. During treatment, they can answer questions, communicate with your medical team and help you prepare for postsurgery care.
