    • 1). Display the royal banner at a building when the King or Queen is in residence. It can also be displayed on a vehicle or vessel that is carrying the monarch. Generally, it is not to be displayed by citizens when the monarch is passing by. The banner can also be displayed by official representatives of the king, such as the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

    • 2). Display the banners of multiple members of the royal family (if there is more than one present) in the order of their precedence. In other words, display the banner for the monarch at the top of the flag pole, that of their spouse below this, and so on.

    • 3). Display the banner respectfully. Never display it at half staff or upside down. When removing it for storage, fold it and never let it touch the ground.

    • 4). Display the banner that is appropriate to the occasion. For example, the Queen of England does not use the royal banner when visiting the member nations of the Commonwealth, since she is not technically still their ruler. Instead, she displays a very different personal banner.
