How to Sign Credit Card Slips
- 1). Look at the bottom of the slip you are to sign. Ensure that it indicates you are signing the business copy of the slip and not the customer copy. Sometimes you may receive two copies of the slip that look alike except for that designation. In some stores, you may also receive a yellow carbon copy of one credit card slip attached to a white master copy. Sign the white copy and keep the yellow copy for yourself.
- 2). Sign the credit card slip using the exact name that is on the credit card. This name should match that on your photo identification, if possible. If you have recently changed your name, ensure you use the name that is on the card until you change your name with the credit card company and it issues you a new card with your new name.
- 3). Use the pen attached to the credit card processing machine when you check out if you are signing the credit card slip electronically. Put your signature on the line that appears on the machine after you swipe your credit card. You will be asked to confirm the signature by using the pen to press a button on the screen that says "Enter," "OK," "Submit" or something similar. Note that you may not have to sign for a credit card transaction in some cases if the amount of the sale is relatively low. Each store or service has different policies about this.
