How to Plumb a Replacement Faucet
- 1). Locate your bathroom faucet supply lines that you removed when replacing the faucet. Get underneath the sink and note the hollow bolts below the handles of the replacement faucet. Wrap these bolts, one or two, depending on how many handles your faucet has, in Teflon tape to prevent water leaks.
- 2). Screw on the water supply lines to the hollow bolts of the handles using the basin wrench. Begin by screwing the supply lines on by hand, and then proceed using the basin wrench, turning clockwise to tighten.
- 3). Tighten the other end of the water supply lines to the water supply valves at the bottom of the sink. Tighten to a snug fit.
- 4). Install the stopper, lift rod and lever that came with the replacement faucet according to the manufacturer's instructions. These components operate the lift rod, which seals water in the sink basin, allowing water to pool, or drains the water when the rod is lifted.
- 5). Place rags below the sink and near the water supply lines in case there's a a leak when you turn the water back on. Loosen the water supply valves. Watch for leaks below and above the sink. If there are leaks above the sink, turn the water back off, disassemble the plumbing and add more painter's putty to the gasket of the replacement faucet. If the leak is below the sink, note the junction where the leak occurs, loosen it and add sealant or tape and try again.
