Crashing Into Larenz Tate
Showing support for his ?A Man Apart? co-star Vin Diesel, actor Larenz Tate showed up at the World Premiere of Universal Studios? ?The Chronicles of Riddick,? the big-action sci-fi drama that?s the creative baby of Diesel and writer/director David Twohy. Actually Tate had quite a few connections to the ?Riddick? cast/premiere: one of the movies he?s just finished working on is a Universal Studios film and he co-stars with ?Riddick? cast members Thandie Newton and Keith David in the ensemble drama, ?Crash.? It sounds like Larenz Tate has a chance at being the next Kevin Bacon, at least when it comes to playing Six Degrees of "Chronicles."
Besides Tate, Newton, and David, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser, and Jason Isaacs all have featured roles in ?Crash.? Filmed in and around Los Angeles, writer/director Paul Haggis? story follows the multiethnic ensemble as they careen in and out of each other?s lives. Tate didn?t give away too much of the plot, however he did reveal he?s playing a bad guy who is best friends with Ludacris, and that the two are carjackers.
Also on the horizon for Larenz Tate is a role in the Universal Studios Ray Charles biopic, ?Ray? (previously titled ?Unchain My Heart?). Tate claims ?Ray? is a phenomenal film and actor Jamie Foxx will blow everyone away with his portrayal of the legendary musician, Ray Charles. ?Jamie Foxx is nothing less than amazing,? exclaims Tate, who also takes on the role of a legend ?music impresario Quincy Jones. Tate had the support of Jones, with Jones advising the filmmakers to ?go for it? when asked about Tate?s participation in the project.
Prior to the start of filming, Tate was able to spend a good deal of time with Quincy Jones, a man he admires and calls a friend.
Playing Quincy Jones from the age of 16 to 28, Tate is emphatic in his assertion that getting the role and getting to spend time with Jones is both an honor and a privilege, and that he hopes he makes Jones proud.
