How to Snake a Plugged Waste Drain Pipe
- 1). Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from foul water.
- 2). Push the end of the cable into the drain.
- 3). Turn the handle of the auger counter clockwise to feed it into the pipe. Guide it with the hand and reposition the handle as necessary.
- 4). Turn the handle until you reach the clog.
- 5). Move the snake back a little by turning the handle clockwise to begin breaking away the clog. Insert and return the snake in this manner several times.
- 6). Reel in the snake once you feel the clog come loose, bringing the clog with you. Slowly reel it in to keep the clog on the end of the auger. Remove the clog by hand and place it in a bucket.
