Every writer wants to become better at the trade, and yet, writing is such a personal thing that it's hard to decide who to follow, and whose advice is worthy.
Indeed, if you would like to improve your writing abilities, style, and grace, then I'd like to recommend an excellent book for you.
The name of the book is; "Writers Inc.
- a student handbook for writing and learning"
by Patrick Sebranek, David Kemper and Werner Meyer This book has chapters on; how to get started with your writing, how to draft an outline for a work, why writing is an art, and the personal issues you have to deal with such as writer's block and remaining in the creative flow.
The authors also suggest how to drill down in your subject matter to create better writing.
Then later in the book; when it comes to creative writing they explain the difference between fictional works and that of nonfiction to give you a better understanding of the process.
There are an unbelievable number of great tips to help you in your writing.
There is also a section on persuasive writing and also academic writing.
The back of the book is filled with tips on proofreading, the mechanics of writing, including grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and use of the language.
If you are learning how to write, and this is the profession you choose, then no matter what type of writing you may be doing, this book is an excellent overview and a good reference book to have in your writing library.
In fact, I have one sitting in my personal writing library.
