Exterior Siding Ideas
- Vinyl siding is made from polyvinyl chloride, otherwise known as PVC. Due to its durability and cost, vinyl siding makes up a large portion of the exterior siding business. Indeed, according to the Vinyl Siding Institute, vinyl is the number one selling choice for exterior siding in the United States and Canada. Vinyl siding comes in a wide range of colors and styles.
- Wood has a long history of use for exterior home siding. Wood is durable and can last for a long type with the proper care and maintenance. Wood siding should be stained, painted and sealed at installation and power washed regularly to keep the siding free of mold or mildew. Fresh coats of stain or paint and sealant should be added when the siding starts to show signs of wear. It is also important to use the proper types or wood for wood siding, typically pine, spruce, cedar, fir or redwood.
- Brick and stone siding is durable, long lasting and requires little maintenance. It is usually costlier than wood and vinyl siding options. Both options provide good insulation for a home. Bricks can either be full or be in the form of brick veneers. Stone siding can be made of real stones or can be made of cement molded to look like real stone. Cement siding and brick veneers are less expensive than full bricks or real stone. Bricks and stones should be laid by a professional. This is not a do it yourself project.
