Tips for Installing a Solar Energy System in Your Home with Minimum Costs.

Solar energy is becoming more popular every day for the following obvious reasons:

1. There is a growing awareness that the fossil fuels are an ending resource and that mankind needs to change them for renewable energy sources.

2. Traditional fossil fuels are creating growing environmental problems and greatly enhance the global warming of the earth through the emission of carbon dioxide and other green house gases.

3. The economic crisis forces people to reduce their living costs to survive and solar energy is a perfect option to reduce their electricity bills.

However, installing a solar energy system is not cheap because of the high costs for the solar panels and specifically the high costs of the photovoltaic cells which generate the electricity.

The good news is that there are ways to reduce the cost of installing a solar energy system in your house significantly. The most important ones are:

1. Reduce as much as possible your electricity consumption in your house to be able to install a solar energy system with less capacity (=less costly photovoltaic cells);

2. Build your solar panel(s) yourself! Many people think that building your own solar panels is too difficult, but in fact, it is rather easy if you have the proper guide and instructions! And fun to do so as well!

3. When building your own solar panel don't buy new photovoltaic cells but look on the Internet where you can buy slightly damaged cells. The process of making the cells is rather delicate and many manufacturers face problems during the process and end up with a stock of slightly damaged cells which they sell for very cheap prices! You may save thousands of dollars this way! Because they are slightly damaged they don't produce the 100% of electricity for which they are designed but maybe 5-15% less. Just verify how much the panel generate and add more cells (or an extra panel) to compensate the loss! If you can buy the damaged cells with discounts of 50-75% building an extra panel is much cheaper!

4. Batteries to store the electricity generated by the solar panels for periods when there is no sun light or when demand is higher than the production of electricity is another costly element for installing a solar energy system in your house. However, if you are connected to the grid of your electricity company chances are great that they are willing to buy from you any surplus solar energy you produce and which you do not need at the moment! If so, there is no need to install batteries because you sell when you produce more and automatically buy from your company when you need more than you produce!

Applying these tips will greatly reduce your investment required to become a solar energy producer and will enable much more people to opt for solar energy in their houses!
