    • 1). Resting is the most important component of healing tendinitis of the knee. Rest doesn't mean lying in bed all day; it means not running or jumping until the tendons have healed. The best advice is to avoid any activity that causes pain in the knee.

    • 2). Go to a physical therapist. Physical therapy can help you adjust your body motions so you put less strain on the injured knee. Physical therapists will also prescribe a series of exercises to strengthen your quadriceps muscles, the most important component of alleviating strain on the patellar tendon. A knee brace should always be worn during any type of physical therapy while rehabilitating.

    • 3). Stretching is another vital component of alleviating pain associated with tendinitis of the knee. If your quadriceps are inflexible, that will cause additional strain to the tendons and will lead to increased pain when moving. Your physical therapist will provide stretching exercises to increase flexibility in those areas.

    • 4). Receiving a massage of the tendons in your knee can help promote and hasten the healing process. By massaging these tendons, the masseuse loosens the muscles and allows them to stretch, which in turn helps alleviate pain.
