The Exercise Survival Kit - Fitness Basic Must Haves
Depending on what your workout routine is, and how many types of activities you participate in, you will accumulate clothing, accessories and gadgets to aid your workouts.
Here's my personal list of basic essentials: 1.
A Mat No matter what exercise you try, you'll need a decent mat for stretching.
If you do floor exercises, outdoor workouts, yoga, Pilates, or martial arts, you'll need one all the more.
A good quality mat can be purchased for between $10-20, and all you need is a mat strap if you travel with your mat.
No yoga bag required, although they do look nice! 2.
Comfortable Clothing I never could understand exercising in pretty, but uncomfortable clothing.
I run in my jammies! Basic workout gear is nothing more than a comfortable pair of shorts, or sweat pants, and a loose fitting t-shirt, or tank top.
Women should invest a little more into a comfortable and supportive sports bra.
3.
Shoes If there's one item to put a lot of research into, it's your shoes.
If you run, get a running shoe.
If you do a bit of everything, get a cross trainer.
Everybody has a different foot, and gait.
Try on every shoe in the store if you have to, and ask the sales associates to asses your gait (the way you walk) for a sure fit.
Don't go on looks alone, go for comfort and fit! After two days, and one return, I found my Asics trail runner.
It's suited for indoor and out, all terrain and water resistant.
Perfect (and comfortable) for both my runs, and travelling in wetter weather to my training appointments! 4.
Wrist Straps Weight lifting gloves are recommended if you don't want callouses but many also reduce grip strength.
More important than gloves, are straps to protect your wrists while lifting weights.
There are gloves with straps built in if you would like both.
5.
Mp3 Player I workout without one sometimes, but only when I forget to charge my player! Whether you listen to music or audio books, an Mp3 player is recommended.
Obviously it's not a necessity, and you can still exercise without one but it will keep you entertained and make the time fly.
There are optional accessories such as: pedometers for tracking your daily steps, heart rate monitor, stopwatch (Gymboss is great!) and blocks for yoga.
Exercise can be performed with minimal equipment and accessories, however, these five are quite helpful and in come cases necessary.
