In the United States, over 178 million gallons of gasoline is consumed every day.
Gasoline prices are on the rise again as a barrel of crude oil hit $102 today.
It doesn't appear there is any end in sight.
With the war in Iraq, and the Hurricane season approaching in a few months, oil and gas prices will only creep up higher in the coming months.
During the past week, gas prices rose over 5%, reaching its highest levels since 2007.
The average price for Diesel gas is now over $3.
50.
Who would have guessed this would be the case a few years ago while we were complaining about $1.
50 per gallon gas? At this pace, it is not out of the question that we will see prices reach $4.
00 per gallon later this year.
Many of the analysts are projecting gas prices around the $3.
75 range for diesel.
Normally during this time of the year, the refineries begin to manufacture the "summer blend" gasoline, which is more expensive.
This usually happens right about now in February and March.
If you look back at the history of gas prices, March/April are typically months where gas prices begin to rise.
Taking all of this into consideration we have to look at the positives and negatives of all of the spikes in gas prices.
First of all, the obvious negative is the price we have to pay NOW, but what goes up, must come down.
Typically when there is a large spike in prices, you have an equally sharp decline in prices.
We will hopefully see the decline sooner than later.
Another negative is the large demand for oil in other areas of the world.
All of this demand has caused the prices to increase as well.
The supply just cannot keep up with the demand.
Below is a list of historical gas prices so you can see how things have increased over the years: (Please note that these prices are adjusted for inflation so you can get an accurate comparison with today's prices) 1950 - $1.
