The Fair And The Dutch Ovens
Commonly known as the camp oven, the Dutch oven is indeed a very versatile piece of cooking equipment. Based from its nickname, you can use it during camping and outdoor cooking. This oven is designed so as to cook and prepare food the easy way when you are outdoors. And since it is usually made from cast iron or aluminum, cooking with it over hot coals or burning wood is not a problem.
Another type of Dutch oven is the modern version of it. The style and the materials used are almost the same, but the modern type is much more fashionable in a way that it comes in a variety of colors.
In line with its tradition of good cooking and healthy food, a cooking competition was organized. Dubbed as the Dutch Oven Cook-Off and was set to take center stage last August 2, organizers aimed to have good food plus promote closer family ties. Participants in the cooking show had the choice to enter either as an individual contestant or as a group with a maximum of three members. Family members who are not competing can still be part of the show by cheering for those that they want to win.
The competition has three main categories: main dish, side dish and breads and desserts. Winners will be judged using the following criteria: 40% for taste, 20% for appearance or dish presentation, 20% for over-all appeal and 20% for the recipe execution. The prizes at stake for each category are $50 for the first place winner, $30 for whoever lands in second place and $20 for third. The over-all winner will also receive $75 and $25 for over-all second place winner.
