Ideas for a Jack & Jill Baby Shower

    Casual Party Setting

    • Baby showers with female guests tend to be a little formal, as many women opt to have a luncheon or tea party while presenting the guest of honor with baby shower gifts. If men are invited to the shower, keep the theme casual by having a barbecue, if weather permits, or a sports-themed party, if the parents of the soon-to-arrive baby are sports fans. Order pizza and include snacks like pretzels and beer so men won't feel intimidated at the gathering, or ask the baby-to-be's father to fire up the grill to make the party fare. Allow ample time for guests to mingle before and after the gifts are presented, or organize the baby shower around watching a sports game that everyone will enjoy.

    Karaoke Baby Shower

    • A karaoke-themed baby shower involves an activity that both genders can comfortably participate in together. Put together a list of songs that include the word "baby," or couple-friendly songs that guests can sing with their significant others to make the party especially entertaining. You can even suggest that guests bring music-related gifts to the shower, like a CD of soothing music for the parents to play in the baby's nursery, or baby toys that play children's songs. Include appetizers that both sexes would enjoy, like chicken wings or mini pizzas, as well as vegetable and fruit trays, to make the menu attractive to all the guests.

    Coed Shower Games

    • Organize activities that are designed for couples at the baby shower so that men will feel included in the festivities. For instance, time each couple as they diaper a baby doll together. You can tie one hand behind each person's back to encourage the couple to work together, or blindfold one member of the couple so the other can direct the diaper changing process. Or, have a "chugging" contest for the men at the shower, in which they have to guzzle down all the fruit juice or milk in mini baby bottles while the women cheer them on. Present the winner with a prize like a sweatshirt featuring the couple's favorite sports team.

    Jack and Jill Party Favors

    • Party favors that feature ribbons and bows may not be appealing to the guys who attend the baby shower, so gender-neutral favors are best. For instance, give each couple a goody bag filled with classic treats like chocolate chip cookies or trail mix to thank guests for attending the shower. Or give both pink and blue favors, especially if the couple have chosen not to reveal or find out the sex of the baby. For instance, combine mini bags of blue M&Ms with beef jerky and mini cans of Pringles for the guys, and hand out pastel pink mints and sugar cookies iced in pink in hot pink gift bags to the female guests.
