    • 1). Determine if you will be doing a basic camping trip with a car and tent, or hiking a considerable distance? If hiking very far, your choices should be limited to something light and that doesn't take up much room in your pack. Consider a canister stove in that case.

    • 2). Go with a double burner stove if you'll be cooking more than one thing at a time. This is an option for those with the room to pack the bulkier stove. However, if weight is a factor, there is considerable variation among models.

    • 3). Study the options available on various models of stoves. Look at things like windscreens, adjustable flame, and the boil time, or the time it generally takes for the stove to get water boiling. Also find out how long the burn time is, or how long the fuel will burn under normal conditions. Also, consider the fuel required and the ease of finding such fuel where you are or will be.

    • 4). Other cooking equipment that you might need including a coffee pot, a dutch oven, a small barbeque grill, a grilltop for campfires, and dutch oven. Having a meal plan will be essential in determining what cooking supplies and equipment will be necessary for your trip.
