Two of the unexpected improvers in 2014, Brisbane and Parramatta will be looking to keep the momentum going in an interesting Friday night matchup. Both teams will be relying on their defence but it will be the ability to build some attack that will be key.
The Broncos get a huge in with captain Justin Hodges playing his first match since rupturing his Achilles last season. Hodges comes into the centres with Dale Copley shifting to the wing and Lachlan Maranta dropped. International prop Ben Hannant also comes onto the bench. Jarrod Wallace and Corey Oates drop out. Parramatta are unchanged from the team that beat Penrith.
Despite their poor form in recent years, the Eels have actually split their last eight with the Broncos. Overall Brisbane hold a 28-18-1 all-time advantage over Parramatta. Only two of the last seven have totalled more than 37 points. The two sides have played four finals with two wins apiece. Parramatta five-eighth Corey Norman switched from Brisbane this season while Broncos benchman Todd Lowrie is a former Eel.
Both Brisbane and Parramatta have exceeded early expectations. Brisbane sit near the top of the table with a 3-1 record with victories over Canterbury, North Queensland and St George Illawarra and a last minute loss to the Roosters their only blight. The Eels got smacked by the Roosters in Round 2 but have home wins against New Zealand and Penrith and were most unlucky to lose at Brookvale.
