Drew Brees - Shoulder Dislocation

The Player:
Drew Brees is a professional football player currently playing with the New Orleans Saints. Brees was born 1/15/1979. He played college football at Purdue University and was drafted in 2001 by the San Diego Charges as the 1st pick of the 2nd round of the draft.
The Injury:
In the last game of the 2005 season, the San Diego Chargers were playing the Denver Broncos. Brees was injured while being tackled and sustained a shoulder dislocation.
The Surgery:
The surgery performed on Brees was to repair a torn labrum, called a Bankart lesion. A Bankart lesion occurs when the shoulder dislocated, pulling off an important ligament that helps to hold the shoulder in proper position. Unfortunately, this ligament tends to heal poorly is left alone, leaving the shoulder susceptible to repeat dislocations. Therefore, surgery is performed to hold the ligament in its proper position, and thus prevent repeat dislocations.
