How to Change the Orifice of a Propane Kenmore Dryer
- 1). Unplug the power cord from the outlet and pull the dryer away from the wall. Remove the lint screen from the top of the dryer and set it aside. Remove the screws from the top of the dryer at the lint screen opening with a Phillips screwdriver.
- 2). Turn off the gas supply valve and disconnect the gas line from the dryer using an adjustable wrench. Slide a putty knife between the front panel and the top of the dryer and pry up on it to release the retaining clips. Push the top of the dryer back so that it is resting at the back of the dryer.
- 3). Reach into the dryer and unplug the door switch harness. Remove the screws securing the front panel to the frame inside the dryer, at the top, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the front panel away from the dryer and set it aside.
- 4). Push the idler pulley to the side under the dryer drum and release the belt from the motor pulley. Lift the drum out of the dryer frame by forming a loop at the top of the belt and lifting the drum out with it.
- 5). Remove the burner assembly from the dryer by loosening the retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the orifice using an adjustable wrench.
- 6). Install the new orifice on the burner assembly and tighten it snugly with an adjustable wrench, but do not overtighten it or you will destroy the threads. Install the burner assembly in the dryer and tighten the retaining screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
- 7). Set the drum into the dryer by lifting it with the belt so that the drum rollers line up with the lip of the drum. Push the idler pulley to the side under the dryer and pull the drum belt across to loop it onto the motor pulley. Release the idler pulley and it will automatically tension the belt properly.
- 8). Place the front panel on the Kenmore dryer and install the screws at the top on the inside of the dryer with a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the wiring harness together for the door switch. Rotate the top onto the dryer and push down on the corners to lock the retaining clips. Connect the gas line to the dryer and tighten it with an adjustable wrench.
- 9). Turn the gas supply on for the dryer and plug in the power cord. Push the dryer against the wall.
