Meet the 2015 Jeep Renegade
Jeep's new "baby" is a compact crossover with off-road ambition.

Front 3/4
Renegade’s super-cute styling is highlighted by a bright color palette. Red tow hooks in the bumper and big, knobbly tires indicate that this is the off-road-ready Trailhawk model.

1.4-Liter Engine
Renegades equipped with a manual transmission get Fiat’s 1.4 liter turbocharged engine, which puts out 160 hp. It’s more fuel-efficient than the 2.4 liter/automatic combination, but the 1.4T requires premium fuel, which negates the savings. Unlike most SUVs, Jeep will sell you an all-wheel-drive Renegade with a manual transmission.

2.4-Liter Engine
Opt for an automatic transmission, and you’ll get this 2.4 liter naturally-aspirated engine with Chrysler’s nine-speed automatic. The 2.4/auto combination is standard in the Trailhawk and optional in other Renegade models.

Back Seat
Renegade’s back seat is set low and back, which opens up a surprising amount of leg- and head-room. For a small SUV, there’s a lot of passenger space.

Cargo
Renegade has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which is generous considering the vehicle’s small exterior size.

Driver's Dash
Renegade’s dashboard represents current Fiat-Chrysler practice: A straightforward, easy-to-use layout and high-quality materials. UConnect touch-screen stereo is one of my favorite infotainment systems.

Front Seats
Renegade’s driving position is unusual, with thick thigh bolstering and a windshield set far away from the driver. Once I got used to it, I found it exceptionally comfortable.

Interior
Renegade’s interior is festooned with “Easter eggs”—surprise details scattered liberally about. Chrysler has done a good job opening up lots of interior space.

Sunroof
Most Renegades have a black interior, but this brown-and-orange combination is offered with certain paint colors.

Tachometer
“MySky” double-panel sunroof is a nice idea—but the removable fiberglass panels that cover it seem to be a pain-in-the-butt novelty. Sunroof can be had with or without glass. Without glass, removing the panels makes the Renegade an open-air vehicle.

Taillight
Mud-splatter tacho redline is an example of one of the Renegade’s “Easter eggs”. You’ll also find maps in the storage bins and an outline of an old-time Jeep in the windshield.

“X” motif in the taillight echoes the fuel cans that were fit to the back of Army Jeeps.
