Let someone know where you're going when you will be back: This is the initial thing every good hiker needs to do no matter where they're going no matter how big the group. If you're lost and hurt outside, time becomes an important factor. If people don't know you are missing chances are they'll won't start to look for you. And if they know where you are hiking they are able to restrict the search to a specific area.

Never stray off the path: Eventhough it can be exciting and fun to explore from the path that idea can result in a lot of problems fairly quickly. Not only do your foot prints damage sensitive areas, however when you are off the path it can be easier than you think to be turned around and not know where to go next. The terrain could also become unpredictable and cause increased risk so if you want your hike to generally be problem free, adhere to the designated paths.

Wear proper comfortable hiking shoes: Having comfortable shoes ensures that after your day your feet won't be sore or have blisters and you will probably enjoy your trip much more. Having solid shoes or hiking boots will likely help limit the chances of injuring your ankle and foot. Under no circumstance are flip-flops good for hiking even if you are using a well-used trail. Bring a snack: You don't really need to pack a complete course meal; however if you might be out hiking for the entire day you should pack a sandwich along with other foods. We always recommend eating natural-sugary foods like fruits. Apples and oranges are great. They will help keep you hydrated and provide you a boost of long-lasting energy. Trail mix, (Our favourite bag is a mixture of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, cashews, pecans, raisons and chocolate chips) is also a great snack as it will give you the necessary protein and sugar.

Wear different layers of clothing: Weather throughout the Snowdonia area can be very unpredictable, however, it is wise to plan for rain. The area is among one of wettest in the UK which means that your last layer should be something which is breathable and waterproof. Gortex is always a good waterproof layer. You need to plan for no less than three or four layers, including: an inner layer, middle layer, outer layer and a waterproof covering. Stay clear of cotton because it holds in moisture and will sap your body heat away from you. If you'd prefer natural products, an excellent outer layer is wool; it may be lightweight or heavy and it doesn't absorb moisture.

Stretch before you start: At the end of the day the goal is to have fun and not be sore all over. Hiking is very demanding and you need to make certain that your muscles are warmed up. Stretching your legs, back and arms will also help prevent any injuries like cramps when out on the trail.

Hiking is a really fun activity if you want to stay safe, you have to make smart decisions and be prepared. Unfortunately accidents do happen however it is good to know that if something does happen you can rely on groups like the South Snowdonia Mountain Rescue Team. Rescue teams such as the SSMRT are made up of hardworking and dedicated people who take their responsibilities seriously. If anything does go wrong you know that these people will do their best to be sure everybody is safe.
