Victor from Frankenweenie

Victor Frankenstein (voice of Charlie Tahan) figures out a scientific way to bring his late dog Sparky back to life in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Victor has a sharp mind, and he absolutly loves science. His new teacher Mr. Rzykruski inspires Victor to take science to a whole new level, but his eccentric teacher also warns Victor that science can be used for good or bad.

Victor's character is named after and inspired by the scientist Victor Frankenstein, who is the main character in the famous Frankenstein novel and classic Frankenstein film about a scientist who creates and gives life to a monster.

Frankenweenie draws from the original Frankenstein story, and the black and white movie pays homage to many other classic horror films through character names, music and events in the movie.

Sparky from Frankenweenie

Sparky is Victor's dog in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. When Sparky dies unexpectedly, Victor can't accept life without his best friends. He uses his scientific knowledge to bring Sparky back from the dead.

Sparky parallels Frankenstein's monster from the story of Frankenstein. He has the same bolts in his neck, and his skin is sewn and mended just like the monster's. Like Frankenstein, Sparky also has a beautiful love interest with head of striking hair...

Persephone from Frankenweenie

Persephone is Elsa's pet poddle in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Elsa and Persephone live next door to Victor and Sparky, and Persephone has a real soft spot for Sparky. When Sparky dies, Persephone is heartbroken.

In this photo, Persephone's 'do can't be mistaken. Her poodle style is modeled after the Bride of Frankenstein. The character was introduced in the sequel to the original Frankenstein movie, in which Frankenstein's monster demanded a mate.

Sadly, the union didn't work out too well, but the bride's hairstyle will live on forever.

Elsa Van Helsing

Elsa Van Helsing (voice of Winona Ryder) is not the stereotypical "Girl Next Door" in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Don't let Else's goth look and sober demeanor fool you, she has a good heart and looks out for her friends. She also has a beautiful black poodle named Persephone.

Elsa's name is a reference to the accomplished vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker's 1897 iconic horror novel Dracula.

Van Helsing is a Dutch name, so it's fitting that Elsa's uncle is forcing her to be this year's "Little Dutch Girl" at the town's Dutch Day celebration.

Mr. Rzykruski

Mr. Rzykruski (voice of Martin Landau) is the eccentric new science teacher at New Holland Elementary School in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. His thick Eastern European accent accentuates his creepy and sober yet enthusiastic and uninhibited scientific explanations. Mr. Rzykruski inspires young Victor, whose scientific mind is advanced enough to understand and appreciate the possibilities. He also reminds Victor that science can be used for good or bad.

The character of Mr. Rzykruski is a nod to the iconic horror film actor Vincent Price (House of Wax, The Fly). In 1982, Tim Burton produced a short about a young boy who fantasizes about being Vincent Price, for which Vincent provided the narration. The late actor's last role in a feature film was that of The Inventor in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands.

Edgar "e" Gore from Frankenweenie

Edgar "E" Gore (voice of Atticus Shaffer) is a manipulative and agitated little misfit in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. When "E" finds out about Victor's secret, he forces Victor to give him scientific secrets that result in unintended consequences.

"E" Gore's name is of course a reference to the hunchbacked lab assistant character that has become popular in many films and parodies. The character originated from the lab assistant in the original Frankenstein movie, though that assistant's name was Fritz.

The name Igor became attached to the stereotype through subsequent Frankenstein movies and other horror films.

Nassor

Nassor (voice of Martin Short) is Victor's classmate in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. An darkly intense and highly intelligent character, Nassor has his eye on Victor. At first, he doesn't believe the rumors, but when he finds out the truth about Victor's science experiment, Nassor is determined to see for himself.

11-year-old Nassor may remind you of someone. His character is like a young version of the great horror flick icon Boris Karloff.

Boris is most remembered for his role as Frankenstein's Monster in the original Frankenstein film, but he starred in many more scary classics -- enough that there is even a 20-film collection called Boris Karloff: Master of Horror. Incidentally, he was also the voice of the narrator and the Grinch in the classic cartoon Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Bob from Frankenweenie

Bob (voice of Robert Capron) is the brawn to the driven Toshiaki’s brains in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Bob is a good kid, but he's susceptible to intellectual bullies, and his big size means that Bob is doing the dirty work for the crafty Toshiaki.

Toshiaki from Frankenweenie

Toshiaki (voice of James Hiroyuki Liao) is one of Victor's classmates in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. The highly competetive Toshiaki believes he should be the science fair victor, and he is determined to win at any cost. When he finds out that Victor has a scientific secret, Toshiaki sets out to copy his classmate, but his actions result in unintended consequences.

Weird Girl from Frankenweenie

Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein (voices of Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short) are Victor's parents in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Mrs. Frankenstein is a supportive, patient and caring but sometimes oblivious mother, especially when she has her nose in a novel. Mr. Frankenstein is a friendly travel agent who is proud of his son, but worried that Victor needs to be more well-rounded. He kindly encourages Victor to make new friends and play sports.

Bob's Mom

Weird Girl (voice of Catherine O’Hara) is one of Victor's classmates in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Weird Girl has the creepy wide-eyed look, makes disturbing comments, and is never without her psychic cat Mr. Whiskers.

Bob's Mom (voice of Conchata Ferrell) is a plump, excitable suburban housewife in the Tim Burton movie Frankenweenie. Bob's mother adores her son, sometimes to his detriment, and she's vocal about her opinions.
