Phenobarditol

• This is the most common medication prescribed for dog seizures. There are many side effects that include sedation, weight gain, difficulty standing or balancing, liver disease and extreme lethargy.
  
  

Chlorazepate

• This medication is closely related to the human drug known as valium. Because the effectiveness of the drug eventually wears off, the dosage will have to be raised and the dog can become dependent on the drug.
  
  

Felbamate

• While the side effects of this medication are mild, the medication must be given in three daily dosages. This is a good choice for dogs experiencing lethargy-induced brain conditions because it doesn't cause sedation.
  
  

Levetracetam

• This medication also requires three daily doses and is very expensive. The effectiveness of the dose varies so an experimental dose procedure to find the right dosage.
  
  

Surgery

• This treatment should be used as a last resort because it is very expensive and there are many risks. It is recommended to use a less invasive treatment and only use surgery if the condition is life threatening.
