    Cognac

    • Yak is often a slang nickname for cognac, a brandy drink manufactured in France. Cognac brandy often has a dark appearance accompanied with a relatively sweet flavor. Yak drinks are alcoholic beverages in which cognac is used as the primary alcoholic ingredient. However, many types of cognac can be used in the drinks. Courvoisier, Hennessy and Remy Martin are all common brands of cognac used to make yak drinks.

    Mixers

    • People have different preferences regarding how to consume Yak drinks. Some cognac lovers enjoy drinking cognac brandy straight from the bottle or a glass, and with no mixers or chasers added to interfere with the brandy's taste. Others prefer to drink it from a glass but with the addition of ice to keep the drink cold and refreshing. Many different mixers can be combined with cognac to enhance the taste of yak drinks. Some mixers that are commonly used include water, tonic water, Coca-Cola or pineapple fruit drinks.

    Rappers

    • In the past, cognac brandies were primarily the drink of choice for wealthy, white elitists. However, with the help of numerous rap artists glamorizing and promoting yak drinks as a symbol of success, such drinks are becoming increasingly consumed by urban communities and fans of rap music. The increased attention drawn to cognac by rappers glorifying yak drinks has greatly improved the sales of cognac, especially in the United States. Rappers who helped stimulate the yak drink movement include Busta Rhymes, Dr. Dre and Nas.

    Cocktail Recipes

    • Tasty yak cocktails feature many different remedies. A black yak is a drink that consists of courvoisier cognac and kahlua coffee liqueur. This cocktail is often served in a shot glass, with half of the glass filled with cognac and the rest with kahlua. Hennessy cognac can also be mixed in a shot glass with Grand Marnier orange liqueur to produce a refreshing "Beautiful" cocktail, and the Cran-Henny recipe consists of Hennessy combined with cranberry juice.
