Danny Spewak Is Now Providing Live Play-By-Play for the Buffalo 716ers
Buffalo, NY (September 5, 2014) - Missouri native, all around sports fan, and WGRZ reporter Danny Spewak joins the Buffalo 716ers staff as the team's official play-by-play announcer. The 716ers are Buffalo's only professional basketball team, playing in the eastern division of the Premier Basketball League (PBL)
"I am a very passionate sports fan who sees a world of potential for the sport of basketball in Western New York," said Spewak.
Spewak's duties as play-by-play announcer will begin when the PBL season begins in December. Spewak has a long history of covering professional sports as both a reporter, and freelance journalist, in his native Missouri.
"Having Danny join our organization is a blessing. He actually reached out to me because he saw all the wonderful opportunities our players have to continue to grow to the next level. Danny is very enthusiastic about sports at all levels, he truly is a blessing to have him join our family," said Tawan Slaughter, owner and head coach.
Those opportunities Slaughter was referring to include having a handful of her players sign professional contracts to play over seas, as well as hosting two scouting events in the month of September.
The team will hold a private, invitation only, workout for 50 selected basketball players on Sunday, September 7th. The workout will began at 1 pm at Tapestry Charter School, in Buffalo.
Represented at this event include National Basketball Association (NBA) agents, European professional agents, and agents representing teams in Central America. Baseline Agency, Sports Management Worldwide, The Landmarq Agency, and Kenny Sherman International will all have representatives in attendance.
The following weekend, on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th, the team jointly host public tryouts with four additional professional teams. Coaches and scouts from the Buffalo 716ers, Erie Hurricane, and Rochester RazorSharks from the PBL, and the Brampton A's and Mississauga Outlaws of the National Basketball League (NBL) of Canada will be in attendance seeking new talent for their respective organizations.Â
