Strategies for Counter Strike 1.5
- Later versions of the game include more maps and environments that more easily lend themselves to cover. This results in players taking their stealth for granted. When playing in Counter Strike 1.5, it is important to be very stealthy and use cover to protect your team as often as possible. You must be creative and learn which areas will fully cover you, which do so partially and when your camouflage will work to your advantage. Keep your steps quiet and your head down by walking along the edges of walls or crouching to move.
- In a game that rewards stealth with easy kills, learn to use your radar. This piece of equipment is often ignored as players search the terrain for encroaching enemies, never stopping to realize that one is immediately upon them. Your radar lets you track friendlies so that you don't open fire on a teammate. If you find that there are no teammates on your radar, quiet your movement and listen. Enemies who are tracking your team will often give themselves away with a quick reload or loud movements. This gives you the perfect opportunity for an easy kill.
- Counter Strike 1.5 offers a wide variety of unsecured and unprotected servers that are ripe for cheaters. Some use these as a testing ground before going up against Valve's Steam clients; others enjoy being a big fish in a small pond. Wallhacks and physics changes are the most common. Wallhacks are easy to detect as enemies will always be able to hone in on you even through buildings. Don't be afraid to call out cheaters, but make certain you have evidence of such. An attentive player may appear to be cheating when really they are just good at hearing boots in snow or players on stairs. Organized networks such as WON2 are less likely to have these problems than open servers, but only player vigilance can weed out the good players from the hackers.
