How to Avoid Being Conned
1. You see a photo of a beautiful, tiny teacup baby Yorkshire terrier puppy worth in strict probably £1000 or more. Yet the advert says this puppy is totally free. You read on and you get excited at the prospect of owning this fantastic tiny dog and not paying for it. It tells you that all you have to do is send them some money to pay for the shipping costs to transport it to you. This sounds fantastic, a bargain. You would be getting a puppy worth a lot for a fraction of the price. But hey hang on. You have seen a puppy but do you know they actually own this puppy? It might be a photo of a dog that their friend owns or a dog they used to own or the dog they own and love and will not part with. And why would they be generous enough to sell it for a tiny fraction of the price? But the biggest and most iffy part of what they say is that they want to send it to you. If they truly wanted to give it away for free they could easily find someone local to just give it to and would not need to advertise or send it anywhere at all!
2. A guy you have never met before tells you he can come and decorate your lounge for you for only £100 if you just pay for the wallpaper and paint. Wow a bargain. After all, a proper decorator would charge £600 or more to do the same room. So you happily give this guy the money to get the paper and paint and you never see him again. Or he comes back and does a bit of work and does it very badly and takes a long time to do it. If this cheap decorator was any good he would already be fully booked with eager, very happy bargain hunters.
