Montgomery County is Pennsylvania's third-largest county with 778,000 people, according to the U.S. Census. The county, about 15 minutes from Philadelphia, has a diverse selection of colleges. Students can choose from a women's college, a branch of the Penn State system and a private school with religious ties. Students can easily get to Philadelphia for relaxation or for research. - Bryn Mawr College is one of six women's colleges in Pennsylvania, and is part of the 53-member Women's College Coalition. The college, which opened in 1885, has approximately 1,300 students who have a choice of 36 majors and 38 minors, including nine graduate programs. The school has an eight-to-one student to faculty ratio. Bryn Mawr has 49 women faculty members in a full-time faculty of 158.

Students can major in one of 15 programs that award baccalaureate degrees, or they can take the first two years of over 160 majors, and then transfer to another Penn State campus to complete their degree. The school was named for Zacharias Ursinus, a 16th-century German academic and theologian. Today, the 1,681 students can major in 27 subjects and minor in 52. The three most popular majors are biology, English, and business and economics, according to the school. The student to faculty ratio is 12 to 1.
