As far as I can tell, you will not be able to confirm the identity of someone you met in a chatroom until you go investigating.
Now, you may not need to bother yourself with everyone you meet in a chatroom but you will need to bother when that person seem to be getting into the soft parts of your heart.
Prevention is better than cure.

You will only need to supply some information about that person which should include the person's full name.
Additional information will be an added advantage in making the search easier.
In the records, you will be see if the person was ever a criminal.
You will get to know what crime the person committed and how many times the crime was committed.
If the person was jailed, you will see how many years the person has been in the prison and so on.
You are not looking into a public criminal record because of prejudice but you are trying to keep your airspace free of dangerous people.
That's what every wise person will do.
