Building Brand Loyalty Through Storytelling

I came across an article on a subject that is near and dear to my heart, and it is that most people can relate to an authentic, true-to-life story. I've always known that I could not possibly be the only one who wanted to know the back-story on peoples' businesses. Since the story of Alkaye Media has taken 35 years to tell, you can understand why.

So, I want to use just a a minute to encourage you to take a look at your story you have concerning your business. I want to share a few tips I have learned, and point out some of the reasons a good story is the best marketing aid you can find.

The beauty of a story is that it has the capability of delivering events as well as ideas. One well-turned story can include everything you want a customer to know, but without the €in your face€ affect that too often has turned a customer away.

When you tell your customers these real stories it makes your company genuine and engaging. J. Peterman's is a perfect example. Each product has a description that might include where Peterman found the product, who he met when he was looking for the product, or how it felt to wear the product. Not every business has products conducive to this kind of narrative, but this is a perfect example of what I am talking about.

As a marketer myself, I know that €building brand loyalty€ is a phrase that is tossed around a lot. For me, that phrase means building a relationship. The Dove facial cleaner advertisements told the stories of women who for one reason or another lacked confidence about the way they looked. Dove's brand gave them a chance to feel beautiful, and stand up for different ways in which a woman can be called €beautiful€.

Every person and business has a story to share. We are all drawn to stories because they illuminate an otherwise typical conversation. As a business it's important to understand this as it lets the customer feel that you can be trusted because you are approachable. That trust; that understanding that you are a real person, means that you and your customer are connected. People who study storytelling say that narratives are how we make sense of the world. No wonder it can lead a customer make sense of what you have to offer, as well.
