How to Get the Best From Your Wedding Photographer

How often does a wedding photographer get that phone or email enquiry from a prospective couple that simply asks for a quote before anything else? It's not the best way to kick off a relationship between photographer and couple.
The key word here is 'relationship'.
But surely if the wedding photographer is providing a service then it's fair to simply just ask how much? The answer is perhaps a little more complex than does it fit my budget.
How many times have you peered at someone else's wedding photos and thought though technically good, they come across as dull, lifeless, repetitive and flat? What was missing? How could they have been better? Wedding photographers consider themselves to be very multi-skilled and highly creative individuals.
The vast majority are.
What they ultimately produce is not just a unique record of your day but a frozen moment in time that also represents the couple in a way that they see themselves and their day.
This not only includes the highlights, the style of photography, composition and the feel of the post processing.
To really make the images stand out, the photographer has to capture a wide spectrum of emotions during the day.
The love being shown, passionate tender moments, endearment from their guests, tears of happiness, nervous anticipation, tingling excitement, the sense of occasion and the rapturous sometimes riotous celebration! Achieving this isn't down to luck.
A big part of achieving the right result for you is down to the working relationship you have with the wedding photographer.
So the first thing the couple should do (assuming they've already reviewed and enjoyed the Wedding Photographers online portfolio and received a good feeling from the testimonials) is arrange a meeting.
That first meeting is key.
If the chemistry is right and the couple are inspired with confidence and trust then this is will open the door to some fantastic photography.
Get a feel for the way the photographer works.
Professionalism on its own is not enough.
The wedding photographers approach, mannerisms and even their sense of humour are important.
Ask yourself can you work with them? Are they going to give you what you want and are you prepared to work closely with them and listen to their suggestions in order to achieve this? Creative people need that openness and willingness to work together if they're expected to fulfil the expectations of the couple and produce something unique and timeless.
It's what gets the creative juices going.
They are not suppliers in the same sense as the company who provides the printed wedding invitations are.
Off course the Wedding Photographer should always listen carefully to the couple and provide what they're looking for, but if the couple wants that 'look and feel' that the photographer is offering, then a fun filled, open and relaxed working relationship with the wedding photographer is what's going to make that happen.
