How to Clean a Coleman Lantern
- 1). Prepare to remove the lantern cap and globe. Most Coleman lanterns have a thumbscrew at the top that holds the cap and globe in place. Unscrew the thumbscrew and set it aside.
- 2). Lift the cap off and set it aside, then lift off the globe. Some lanterns have the globe and cap attached by a cage, and both will come off as one unit.
- 3). Clean out the soot, dead bugs, and other debris from the lantern by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth.
- 4). Wash the lantern cap and globe in a sink using dishwashing detergent. When they are clean, dry them with a towel.
- 5). Reassemble the lantern by placing the globe on, then placing the lantern cap on top of the globe. Make sure you thread the thumbscrew bolt through the hole at the top of the cap. Screw the thumbscrew back to the bolt to hold everything together.
- 6). Place the lantern in its case, or in a plastic bag, making sure to close the bag with a twist tie. This will prevent insects and spiders from climbing into the lantern.
