How to File a Complaint With the US Postal Inspector
- 1). Navigate to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service website at postalinspectors.uspis.gov.
- 2). Click the "mail theft" link under the "Consumer Awareness" section toward the bottom of the page.
- 3). Click on the appropriate link to the crime that you would like to report on the "File a Complaint" page. You have the option of filling out an online complaint regarding mail theft and mail fraud. Mail theft is when someone steals your mail and mail fraud refers to receiving scams or fake ads in the mail. You can also file a complaint if someone falsely changes your address, steals your identity, vandalizes your mailbox or tampers with your mail.
- 4). Complete your online complaint form by typing in the necessary information pertaining to yourself, the suspect and the nature of the crime.
- 5). Click the "Submit Complaint" button at the bottom of your complaint form to send it in to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
- 1). Click the link, "click here to print a Mail Theft Complaint," on the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's "File a Complaint" page. Rather than completing a mail theft complaint form online, you have the option of mailing the complaint form.
- 2). Print the "Mail Theft Complaint" form.
- 3). Complete the "Mail Theft Complaint" form using a pen.
- 4). Mail your complaint form to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's Criminal Investigations Service Center at 222 S. Riverside Plaza, Suite 1250, Chicago.
- 5). Visit your local postal office and pick up Form 1500: Application for Listing and/or Prohibitory Order. This form is for people who wish to stop unsolicited sexually oriented advertising, such as X-rated advertisements, from appearing in their mailboxes.
- 6). Complete Form 1500 using a pen and deliver it in person to any local post office manager or mail it to the Pricing and Classification Service Center at PO Box 1500, New York.
