The Heineken Experience Screams, "Come to Amsterdam"
So you really like Heineken? That's great, because this experience is more than just a taste-test. The Heineken Experience is a combined four floors of interactive experiences encouraged to help the visitor, as Heineken International explains, "see it, hear it, smell it, taste it, and enjoy it" (it being their signature brew). Highlights include making your own bottle of Heineken and viewing the old brewery room.
Located in central Amsterdam, the Heineken Experience actually occupies the building that was once the original Heineken brewery. The beer was made there from 1867-1988, operating as the company's primary facility. Today, the pilsner is made in a factory on the outskirts of Amsterdam due to the need for more space. In 1991 the old site opened as a brewery tour and quickly became a must-see attraction in Amsterdam. Seeing the tour's potential, Heineken revamped, renamed, and remodelled the tour to become the modern Heineken Experience.
The Heineken Experience is a self-guided tour, but you can expect it to last about an hour and a half. Make sure to come with plenty of time to leisurely enjoy the tour. Hours are 11am to 7pm each day with ticket sales ending at 5:30pm. Adult tickets cost €16, unless you book ahead online at heinekenexperience.com. At that point you can get them for €15 and also avoid the queue when you get there. Children are also allowed to enter. Tickets are €12 for children 8-15 (that excludes the alcohol of course) and free for children under eight.
When you visit the Heineken Experience website, check out the Meeting Point tool. With this application you are able to see who else will be visiting the Heineken Experience on the same date as you (that is, if they've given the website permission). At that point you can contact other Meeting Point users and schedule your tour day. If you're headed over to the Netherlands alone or with a small group, the Meeting Point is a cool opportunity to meet up with new people at the Heineken Experience.
