How to Repair a Kohler Faucet K-10413
- 1). Turn off the stops under the sink that supply the faucet. They are the two shut-off valves sticking out of the wall.
- 2). Pry off the cap behind the handle that hides the Allen nut holding the handle onto the valve stem. You may be able to do this with your fingers, but if not, use a slot screwdriver.
- 3). Unscrew the nut holding the handle with a 1/8-inch Allen wrench and remove it. Lift the handle off.
- 4). Adjust the temperature control by lifting off the toothed limiter fitted around the valve stem, rotating it and placing it back on the valve stem. Try the faucet, and if the maximum temperature is too hot or too cold, rotate the limiter again. Repeat until the temperature is satisfactory.
- 5). Repair a faucet leak by removing the ceramic disk assembly and replacing worn rubber seals. Remove the limiter and pull off the bonnet, then unscrew the nut holding the valve assembly in place with an adjustable wrench.
- 6). Grip the valve stem with a pair of pliers and lift the assembly out of the valve seat. Pry out the rubber seals in the inlet holes in the valve seat with a slot screwdriver and replace them. Replace the valve mechanism, screw the nut back on, then replace the bonnet and limiter and screw on the handle.
- 7). Clean or replace the aerator on the outlet of the spout if the water volume is less than you expect. Wrap a rag around it, then unscrew it with a pair of slip-lock pliers. Remove debris, or soak it overnight in white vinegar to dissolve mineral deposits. Replace the washer if water was spraying from the aerator. Screw the aerator back on and tighten it with the slip-lock pliers.
