  Pillnitz is a former residence of Saxon kings located on the Elbe River in the east quarter of Dresden, Germany.   Taking a steamer along the Elbe River is a unique, picturesque way to arrive in Pillnitz. The journey takes from one to two hours. Peak season is in the summer, so reserve your steamer seats in advance, as well as travel accommodations. Tram service is faster and operates daily from Dresden. From there, take ferry or steamer service from Dresden Terrassenufer to Pillnitz. Pleasant boat cruises depart from the Brühlsche Terrasse and arrive in Pillnitz as well.
