Battlefleet Gothic Rules
- All participants must agree on a maximum point total for the army before the first actions may be taken. Players then will use the fleet statistics from the various game books to assemble an army that is less than or equal to this total. Capital ships and other massive entities will comprise the bulk of the fleet and take two-thirds or more of its value. Remember to keep these supported with fighters and defenders as they may be vulnerable to assault from smaller vessels.
- Players play one turn to completion before passing priority to the next player, with the scenario dictating which fleet will go first. Typically this will be the vessels that already are at the destination, though in the case of a surprise attack or ambush, this might change. Ships for the first fleet will begin with movement, then open fire and use special abilities. All ships must complete movement before fire, and all ships must fire before special ordinances may be used. During the end phase totals are collected and destroyed vessels are removed from the table.
- Every battle in Battlefleet Gothic will consist of a specific scenario which should detail who is fighting and why. From this, objectives will be determined that will create the victory conditions of the game. Ongoing campaigns may be simple wars of attrition with victory going to the one who completely destroyed his opponent's fleet or scored the greatest amount of damage. Other win conditions, such as holding a specific sector in space or surviving a certain number of turns may also be used. In these cases it is often the craftiest player who will win, instead of the one who brought the greatest weaponry to bear.
