Candles are truly indispensable in people's everyday lives. During the earlier period, one cannot imagine how to survive the cold and darkness without a candle by his side. Aside from paraffin or the petroleum-based wax, beeswax may also be used for making candles. This is more preferred since it is all-natural as compared to paraffin. You do not have to worry about your candles being dangerous to your health. It also comes less costly since it is easily obtained in bee farms.

What are the requirements on how to make candles with beeswax? Before preparing the materials, choose first the method you plan to do. There are three available: the rolling, molding and dipping. For the rolling method, what you need are sheets of beeswax and wicks. Simply roll the wax forming a candle, with a wick inside. The wax must be somehow heated a bit so that the portions will stick with each other.

Using containers with nice shapes that serve as molds is the most popular method today. The wax needs to be melted carefully without any solid particles left. Melting should be well-executed since wax is volatile. A stove with an adjustable temperature control is preferred. The use of a double-boiler is not a must but highly suggested. You can make do with a steel pan though if you do not want to use a double-boiler. While melting the wax, prepare the other materials: the wicks, molds, and scent oils. Place the wick securely in the middle of the mold, standing up. This can be done by using a clip and letting the wick fall to its length. To add fragrance, a few drops of scent oil is needed.

An old as time method of candle-making is dipping. From the name itself, you can deduce that this involves dipping the wick into the wax. After each dip, let the wax that stuck to the wick cool down a bit before doing another dip. You can dip as many time you want if you are not satisfied with the thickness of the candle.

Since candle-making is not another household chore, the kids may be interested in helping and the process will eventually be a good recreation for the family. This simple hobby can even turn into a business given hard work and beautiful pieces for outputs.
