Excuses Can Be Cured, By Effort
If there is one disease that is surging through universities, and into the workplace, it is procrastination.
In our modern world there is always something else that can be done, or another way in which you can distract yourself from what you should be doing to something that you could do.
And before you know it, that deadline has been and gone, and you've lost the customer.
The real problem arrives when it's not just one customer, but five, ten, and even more.
Over and over again, the work just doesn't get done.
That's when excuses come in.
Excuses will range from the more typical - I lost the report, the computer broke, I thought it was Thursday today, I do not have time, I do not have the money - to the more vague and extreme - I never got that order, they don't have an account with us, I remember sending it over to them,.
But at the end of the day, an excuse is just that: an excuse, trying to cover up the fact that the work didn't get done or that the current situation is within my comfort zone, and I am afraid to change.
So how can you counteract the problem of the excuse? Sadly, there is only one cure: effort.
Effort may sound exhausting, but it is only by making a real effort to achieve your goals that you can eliminate excuses completely.
Only by taking action can you start to see results.
Effort may reveal itself in a variety of different ways.
Sometimes it is getting up half an hour earlier to get ahead on your emails.
Sometimes it is forcing yourself not to surf social media sites when you should be working.
Sometimes it is saying no to an extra project so that you can actually complete the one that you are working on.
Sometimes it is just getting started with an opportunity, rather than postponing it, and waiting for "the perfect time" to come.
Whatever shape or size it appears in for you, effort should always be your closest work companion.
Without effort we would not have any of our modern day luxuries.
We would not have any of our ground breaking medical breakthroughs.
We would not have any thing worth having simply because without effort, excuses win.
Always remember that every things worth possessing will take work, daily effort and persistence, but when we finally achieve our goals, it would be totally worth the sacrifice.
