    Post Office

    • 1). Visit your local post office. Fill out the United States Postal Service (USPS) forms that are appropriate for your envelope. The forms are usually located in a convenient self-service area inside the post office location. Normally, you will fill out your address, the destination address and check a box for delivery confirmation. If a line on the form is unclear, leave it blank and ask the attendant for clarification. Your envelope will be marked with a bright green label that signifies "Confirm Delivery." You also may book a delivery confirmation online. This service incurs an extra fee from USPS.

    • 2). Visit USPS.com (see the Resource section) on the Internet to schedule a pick-up for your envelope with delivery confirmation. Fill out the necessary forms online. Your envelope will be picked up on the requested date at your usual pick-up time. You will be given a tracking number when you request delivery confirmation.

    • 3). Use the tracking number that you received for your envelope on the postal service's website to track its location. You will be sent an email when your envelope has been successfully delivered. For some deliveries you may want a "Proof of Delivery" to be sent to you. This also may be requested and printed from the USPS website.

    UPS and Fedex

    • 1). Visit UPS.com or FedEx.com (see the Resource section) to schedule a pick-up of your envelope with a delivery confirmation. You also may visit a UPS or FedEx store location and request a delivery confirmation.

    • 2). Fill out the necessary information on the online forms or at the store location. Both UPS and FedEx will ask for your address, the destination address and if you want insurance or delivery confirmation. If you are ordering a confirmation online you also may schedule a pick-up. You will be given a tracking number that you may use on their websites to locate your envelope. In order to set up a delivery confirmation online, you must open an account with both UPS or Fedex. The process is simple and designed to protect your personal information.

    • 3). Request a delivery confirmation. At a location, do this by asking the attendant for a delivery confirmation. Over the Internet, you will need to fill out a form with the tracking number of the envelope and your account number to obtain a signature proof of delivery. Once the envelope is delivered, you will be sent an email.
