How to Deal With an Awkward Party
- 1). Introduce people and when you do say something interesting about them. For example you can say "Trish this is Becky. Trish is a skilled scuba diver and Becky plays in a band." If you know people at your party have something in common you can also provide that information when you introduce them.
- 2). Suggest a party game. Party games are a great way to break the ice and get people laughing. Games also keep the guests from just standing around awkwardly and staring at one another. If you are hosting an adult party, consider playing drinking games, but stick to one round or so to keep people from getting drunk and sloppy.
- 3). Cranking up some music can help fill the silence of an awkward party and may even get the guests dancing. Guests can also talk about the music you are playing, and whether they bond over their enjoyment or dislike of it, either way at least they are talking.
- 4). Invite more people. Sometimes a gathering needs more guests to make it a party and yours might be a little awkward if it is a small intimate group that doesn't know each other that well. If you can't get more friends to come over, try sitting everyone down around a table and start a conversation about current events to open up a group conversation.
