Parts of a Compound Miter Saw
- Miter saws can come in different sizes to fit for different-sized projects. The most common miter saws use blades that are 10 to 12 inches in diameter. Miter saw blades have carbide teeth for quick and efficient cutting of both soft and hard woods.
- Most miter saws are outfitted with a blade guard that retracts to cover the entire miter saw blade when the saw is in its upright position. Blade guards are a necessary protection on miter saws; they can prevent unnecessary injury when the blade continues to turn after you use it.
- Carpenters place the wood onto the miter saw bed for cutting. The base is composed of a fence and a bed. The fence is a small metal protrusion at the back of the miter saw bed, which is used to steady the wood when cutting.
- The miter handle is in the front of the miter saw's base. Use it to change the angle of the saw's cut. By gripping the handle, you can turn the saw leftward or rightward to change the cut angle to the angle of your choosing.
