With Or Without Health Insurance Is A Good Question

My life has come a long way. It's been live and learn and I have experienced all sorts of things. Living with and without insurance has been quite the risk. Depending on our financial position, I was mostly in favor of having it but often went without. For me it was always a priority with a large family to support. Back then we were fortunate to not ever have needed it.

Let me share this story with you. Some may have called it a middle age crises but at forty eight I decided that I needed to spread my wings, lighten up, maybe see the great outdoors. Whatever it was my wife was ready to concede and let me do what ever I wanted. What I wanted was a bike, the kind with a motor. On weekends I was riding all over the place getting some of that great outdoors. I was enjoying spending time alone and I even made new friends.

Spending time with these new friends was catching up to me. Every Saturday we set out for a great country back road ride that was perfect for motorcycling. I was trying to catch up with the group as they were always riding pretty fast when the road came to a curve and suddenly narrowed. Well with the on coming traffic and at the high rate of speed I was not able to make it.

Contacted my family was the most difficult part of the entire process. Unconscious and no pulse they required to transport me by helicopter me to the nearest trauma center. With a fractured scull, several broken bones I was over a week in a coma. I spent a few weeks in recovery and was able to go home after a total of an entire month. I would need a year of therapy, massive amounts of medication and would need many appointment to several specialist.

Even though its been a few years I still am not completely recovered but am getting on with my life. I am telling you this to inform you of the importance of haveing good health insurance. In the small amount of time of two years I accumulated a $225,000.00 tab. Our health insurance plan had a high deductible and out of pocket was $5000.00 that we were able to make monthly payments. The balance was covered by my Health Insurance company! At any other given time I may not had been covered.
