UFC 130 picks

UFC 130 will present the third fight of the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard saga. Edgar will try to retain his UFC Lightweight title and Maynard will try to repeat the results of their first encounter. This card also has former UFC Light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Matt "The Hammer" Hamill, former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir vs. Roy "Big Country" Nelson and seven more interesting matchups.

I will give some picks for UFC 130 in this article. I will start with the main event. Frankie Edgar has only one loss and that loss was to Maynard. In that fight Maynard impose his size and strength.  A lot happens since that fight Edgar beat twice to BJ Penn and crown as UFC Lightweight king. In their second bout, both fighters show that they improve a lot since their first match. Maynard improve his standing and Edgar improves his takedowns. In that second fight Maynard drop Edgar down and nearly finished the fight, later Edgar recover and score  a few take downs that surprises everyone. That first round cost the victory to Edgar. Since both fighter have a reputation as no finishers, they have 23 wins combined and 16 of those by decisions; this fight most sure will be a decision too. I doubt that Maynard will catch Edgar again and hope a stand up battler with Frankie Edgar being too fast and unpredictable. My pick is Frankie Edgar by decision and still the UFC Lightweight Champion.

My next pick is for the Rampage vs. Hamill fight. This will be a good match in terms of action. Matt Hamill comes with a 5 winning streak although one of them was disqualification one against now UFC Light heavyweight king, Jon Jones. He was losing that match before the match was stopped because of some illegal elbows made by Jones. After that he has 2 wins against former UFC contender Keith Jardine and former UFC Light heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz.  Mat Hamill has great wrestling skills and improve striking. Rampage is also a former UFC Light heavyweight champion; he comes from a great victory against Lyoto Machida. Rampage was known for his considerable wrestling chops and incredible strength but since his arrive to the UFC he seems to focus in his striking and landing big punches.  Rampage lately don't seem to be as focused as he used to be in his matches but to be fair all his last matches were with top ten competition.  Rampage has great takedown defense, great strength, good chin and powerful strikes. Since I don't see Mat Hamill being better than Rampage in any department, I expect a KO by the third round.
